Perhaps talk to the yelp devs, but I doubt something like that would be changed overnight (if at all). It doesn't seem like anything as complex as gecko is really needed with gtkhtml around. IMHO it is yelp's dep on mozilla that is broken. Isn't yelp toggled on/off by USE=doc? It doesn't appear this is the case any more, but I know at one point I didn't have yelp (or the proper docs for yelp to load) and USE=-doc. I agree that adding an help use flag is maybe unnecessary, its not worth the maintenance/configuration required. No other ebuild has a "help" USE flag, so it will just confuse users and lead to multiple bogus bug reports moaning that the help system in Gnome is broken The answer is, rather than get frustrated, to put the ebuild that you desire into your local overlay. Gentoo devs will occasionally do things that you or I disagree with. Keep in mind that:Ĭ) Bitching in public reduces the chances your request will actually be fulfilled eventuallyĪt c: yes, this is why I brought it here, to the forums, instead of bogging down bugzilla. Provide a patch against the ebuild, clearly showing what you changed and why. what a wonderful world we live in.Īn art (oil painting) website I built a pure python backend for: Ī modest proposal: Contact the developer and communicate with him. this was my first (I know, shocking) gentoo bugzilla experience. This is just stupid, because what I'm asking wouldn't take away the ability of anyone else to run it like they wanted, it would just add the abilityof those of us who dont want this yelp crap. if it will build and run without it, it seems optional), and the bug closed, but as if to laugh at me he directs me to the original bug. HOW STUPID CAN THIS BE!!! I am asking for a feature, and not only is my idea shat upon (comment made: I don't see how help is optional. I said that you could have a flag, default on, for 'help' and if you wanted to not have it it would be as simple as putting 'app-office/gnucash -help' in e, then updates to world etc would not try to pull in firefox.Īnd what happens, but my bug is marked a duplicate of this bug, which is the bug saying that gnucash should depend on yelp. so I posted a bug, asking that the dependency on yelp, the feature of help, be set up so a use flag could disable it. so manually I just went through gnucash -nodep'ing it to install.Īnd this worked just fine, it works, perfectly. and on a system already pressed for space that uses opera as its only web browser, I am not going to install firefox. in fact, it builds and runs quite well without it. this help IS NOT NECESSARY TO BUILD GNUCASH. If you dont want to go and read it, I posted it because gnucash depends on yelp (they fully integrated it to gnome.
